The second-hand marketplace Members Share Frustration About Sizing Modifications

Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.

The second-hand shopping app has altered its size classifications for women's and children's clothes but did not contact every member regarding the update.

Online Platforms Reaction

Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category than originally posted due to the recalibration.

The company said the revised method more closely matches other platforms.

They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.

Measurement Approach Changes

Previously, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.

The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the size labels have been reassigned - such as a large size used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.

Member Experiences

A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

Another user, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.

Manual Updates

A different user, from Derby, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she explained.

Platform Context

The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.

It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.

This isn't the first time that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: earlier, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
