The President Welcomes Families of Injured Guard Members to White House
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
White House Call
The president stated he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Community members gathered over the past few days at the high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to assist law enforcement in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Government Adjustments
Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the Trump administration to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed a news show that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” the governor addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
