The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Of course, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
