The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Comes After Mixed Response

The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a distinct direction.

Ismailer stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to address gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement mirrors a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the complete text from the president's announcement:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”

With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the input to mind and reimagined the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our players.

The belief in this project grows every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. After some time of discussions, Ben starts with us on next week.

His leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter field is vast, having dedicated the recent years developing and managing some of the most popular titles in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in greeting him next week. We are all excited to keep seeing the evolution of the game in the weeks to come.

The President

Experience of the New Head

Brinkman presently holds the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in various development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, before that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Concept

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch reads. "Face the rivals with new abilities, risks, and obstacles that shift every round. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, gamble everything, and trust your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is yours."

The game has not yet received an announced debut schedule or platforms, but players can look forward to more updates as development continues.
