Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Wilder
The striker is now a member of Sheffield United just seven months after instigating derogatory chants directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy time at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent this past summer.
Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting offensive songs about Wilder amid the club’s promotion party in April. Currently, the one-cap England player is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Past History Involving Bamford & the Manager
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up to the top flight last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager described the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
Everything seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and we had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Challenges
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the former Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
