Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
